I believe philanthropy is giving back to your fellow neighbor with expecting anything in return. It is a way of serving those who cannot provide for themselves.
I serve my community through The ELITE Urban Innovators Group, Inc. where we strive to change the narrative constructed about young Black men by fostering a sense of comradely amongst our youth. All while combatting the many forms of toxic stress that affect male youth in Detroit.
To me philanthropy is having a desire to help others and using whatever resources are at your disposal to offer that help. I am passionate about giving back to my hometown and supporting communities of color and other vulnerable populations. My heart is what makes me a philanthropist.
My philanthropy is helping others financially and by providing resources to those in need. Whether I am doing it myself or connecting others to give through my company, my goal is to transform lives through giving. One dollar may not mean much to one man, but it may change another man’s life or even save a life. I love giving in order to serve others.

You don't have to be rich to give back. You just have to have a heart for others.
My art of philanthropy looks like many things. It’s sitting with a friend who is experiencing loss, it’s helping a high school student finish her college essay, it’s praying for a co-worker who is having a tough day, and it’s having courageous conversations that help dismantle societal & institutional racism. My name is Kandace. I am a child of God, a friend, and an urban community social worker. I am a philanthropist.
To me philanthropy goes beyond making a financial contribution. (Don’t get me wrong, the financial contributions are necessary.) But I also give my time, resources, and create opportunities for young people to connect with their peers around the globe and industry leaders in order to develop their passions. For me philanthropy is about lending my shoulders for the next generation to stand upon, just as I stand on the shoulders of those who came before me. It’s about cultivating civic mindedness and the next generation of philanthropists. My name is Chandra. I am an educator, a global citizen, and a risk taker. I am a philanthropist.
My art of philanthropy is providing scholarships to students and inspiring others to ignite their philanthropic identities and give back. I love every moment of it.
